Pakistan Cricket Board Awards nominees for the year 2021 announced from the selection panel.
The 21-year-old left-arm fast bowler has been nominated in several categories including Impactful Performance of the Year, T20I Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year, and Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year. These nominations were determined by an independent 10-member jury consisting of former international cricketers, broadcasters, and respected members of the media.
Shaheen had an exceptional year in 2021 across all formats of cricket. He showcased his skill and talent by taking 47 wickets in nine Tests, eight wickets in six ODIs, and 23 wickets in 21 T20Is. His notable performance of three for 31 against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has earned him a nomination as one of the four candidates for the Impactful Performance of the Year award.
Run-machine Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Hasan Ali also had a year to celebrate, which is now reflected in their nominations.
Rizwan’s remarkable performances have earned him nominations for the Impactful Performance of the Year, T20I Cricketer of the Year, and Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year awards. On the other hand, Hasan Ali has been shortlisted for the Impactful Performance of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year, and Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year awards.
Babar Azam, Fawad Alam, and Haris Rauf have been nominated in two categories each.
Babar, who earned the Most Valuable Cricketer title in 2020, has once again been recognized in this category, alongside his nomination for ODI Cricketer of the Year. Fawad Alam also secures a second consecutive mention in the Impactful Performance of the Year, with his second nomination in the Test Cricketer of the Year category. Haris Rauf has been shortlisted in the T20I and ODI Cricketer of the Year categories.
For the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, Arshad Iqbal, Azam Khan, Mohammad Wasim Junior, and Shahnawaz Dahani have been selected. Eligibility criteria include being born on or after August 1, 1998, making international debuts in the current calendar year, or participating in a minimum of 15 matches in Cricket Association events and HBL PSL in the same calendar year. Once nominated in this category, players cannot be re-nominated. Therefore, despite their noteworthy performances, Haider Ali and Mohammad Huraira were not considered this year as they had already been shortlisted last year.
Huraira has been nominated alongside Asif Afridi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sahibzada Farhan, and Tayyab Tahir for the Domestic Cricketer of the Year award. Meanwhile, Aliya Riaz, the winner of last year’s award, is nominated again, joined by Anam Amin, Fatima, and Nida Dar, who are all contenders for the Women’s Cricketer of the Year award.
The winners of the Umpire of the Year and Spirit of Cricket awards will be announced directly on Thursday, January 6, at 7 pm PST.
