Held today at the Home of FIFA, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ intercontinental play-off draw has determined the confederation pairings in the contest for the last two spots at football’s flagship global event.
The pairings to be decided in a single leg are:
AFC Team v. CONMEBOL Team
Concacaf Team v. OFC Team
FIFA has selected Qatar as the neutral venue for the intercontinental play-off matches, set to take place on 13 and 14 June 2022. These matches will be hosted at one of the tournament venues equipped with Qatar’s innovative cooling system.
Due to the significant disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the scheduling of FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers worldwide, the play-offs, initially planned for March 2022, have been rescheduled to June 2022.
In the intercontinental play-offs four years ago, Australia and Peru secured their spots in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ by defeating Honduras and New Zealand, respectively.
